Icon recalls Alliance Dark, GT motorcycle helmets for safety issue
PORTLAND, OR – Icon is recalling some Alliance and Alliance GT helmets produced this year, because the D-rings may separate from the chin strap, impacting rider safety.
Potentially affected are:
- Alliance Dark helmets manufactured from January through July, and
- Alliance GT Horror and Rubatone helmets manufactured from March through July.
“Faulty stitching on the nylon webbing attached to the D-rings may possibly not remain secure within the webbing,” Icon stated on its website. “This may allow the D-rings to separate from the chin strap.”
The company continued: “Although only a small percentage of the potentially affected helmets contain the defect at issue, the entire production lot is being recalled in an abundance of caution.”
Owners will receive a free replacement helmet, the company said. More instructions and a recall form are on the company’s website.
Icon’s website provides instructions on determining whether a helmet is involved in the recall. Helmets received after mid-September were already checked for the defect. A green “check mark” on the date label inside the comfort liner would indicate that the helmet was examined prior to sale and found not to have the defect, the company noted.
