How to Improve Your Cornering on the Track

How to Improve Your Cornering on the Track

Fast in, faster out! Let’s break down the art of turning.

If you want to shave seconds off your lap time, cornering is where it happens. Nailing your turns isn’t about raw speed; it’s about smooth technique, smart body positioning, and control.

At Revolution Powersports, we ride with the goal of smoother lines and better flow. Here's how to improve your cornering, step by step.

1. Look Ahead (Not Down)

Your bike goes where your eyes go. Always look through the corner, not at your front fender. The earlier you spot your exit line, the smoother the turn.

2. Master Your Body Position

  • Sit forward on the seat, almost on the tank.

  • Weight the outside peg for balance.

  • Keep your inside elbow up, and lean the bike, not your whole body.

Drill it: Practice on flat corners at low speed and film yourself to analyse form.

3. Brake Before the Turn

Get your braking done before you lean in. Braking mid-corner throws off your balance and can wash out your front tire.
Tip: Feather the clutch slightly if you need more control into the corner.

4. Throttle Control = Corner Exit Speed

Rolling on the throttle smoothly as you exit the turn helps keep traction and gives you a clean drive out. Don’t chop the throttle or slam it wide open—ease into it.

5. Dial in Your Suspension

Too stiff or too soft suspension can kill corner confidence.
We recommend: Getting your sag and clickers set up for your weight and ride style. If you're unsure, we can help.

Start Small, Then Push It

Work on corners at slower speeds and tight turns before bringing that technique into higher-speed berms or ruts.
