It might still be summer in Whistler, but anyone who spends their winters on a sled knows how quickly the seasons can change around here.
There’s still plenty of dirt biking left before the snow arrives, but late summer is also a good time to start thinking ahead. A little preparation now means less scrambling when the temperatures drop and the first real snowfall has everyone suddenly thinking about their sled again.
Make the Most of the Last of Dirt Bike Season
We’re definitely not packing the bikes away yet.
Late summer and early fall can offer some of the best riding of the season around Whistler and the Sea to Sky. The temperatures start to cool off, the trails are quieter, and there are still plenty of weekends left to get out.
It’s also the point in the season when your bike has probably taken a fair amount of abuse.
Before heading out for those final rides, give it a proper once-over. Check your tires, brakes, chain and sprockets, fluids, controls and air filter, and take a look for anything that has worked loose or taken a hit over the summer.
If something hasn't felt quite right on your last few rides, now is a much better time to deal with it than waiting until next spring.
Winter Riders: Now Is the Time to Check Your Sled
We know, there’s no snow yet.
But every year, that first proper snowfall arrives and suddenly everyone wants their sled ready at the same time.
Getting ahead of the rush gives you time to properly inspect your machine, replace worn parts and make any upgrades you've been thinking about before riding season gets underway.
Start with the basics. Check your track for damage or excessive wear, inspect your belt and clutch components, look over your suspension, skis and wear bars, and make sure your controls are working properly.
If your sled needs a service, repair or a bigger job before winter, getting it booked in early can make life a lot easier once the season starts.
Thinking About Upgrades? Don't Wait for Snow
Pre-season is also a good time to tackle the upgrades you were thinking about at the end of last winter but never got around to.
Maybe your track is due for replacement. Maybe you want to change your bar setup, improve your storage, replace worn components or finally sort out that part that annoyed you all last season.
Doing it now gives you time to get everything dialled in rather than spending your first powder day waiting on a part.
Don't Forget Your Winter Gear
Your machine isn't the only thing worth checking.
Pull out your winter riding gear before you actually need it. Check your helmet and goggles, inspect your outerwear, make sure your gloves and boots are still in good shape and go through your backcountry equipment.
It's easy to forget what needed replacing when you packed everything away in the spring.
