Planning a Long Ride? Here’s How to Pack Smart and Plan Smarter

Daisy Adamson |

With the long weekend approaching, it's the perfect time to plan a bigger ride. Long trips are where the real memories are made. Whether you're tearing through backcountry trails, heading deep into the woods, or crossing terrain you’ve never explored before, the key to a great ride is preparation—and we’re not just talking oil changes.

At Revolution Powersports, we know the difference between a smooth trip and a stressful one often comes down to two things: what you pack and how well you plan.

Pack Like a Pro

You don’t need to haul the whole garage, but a few essentials can save your trip—or someone else’s.

Must-Have Tools & Supplies:

  • Compact tool kit (with essentials like wrenches, Allen keys, and screwdrivers)

  • Tire repair kit and mini air pump

  • Spare spark plug and fuses

  • Chain lube and a rag

  • Zip ties and duct tape (trust us)

  • First aid kit and flashlight

  • Extra fuel if your route is remote

Comfort & Safety Add-Ons:

  • Snacks and water (more than you think you'll need)

  • GPS or phone with offline maps

  • Power bank or backup battery

  • Weatherproof gear and an extra layer

  • Emergency blanket or bivvy (if you’re way off-grid)

Know Before You Go

A long ride isn’t the time to “just wing it.” Do a little recon—it’ll pay off big.

Smart Planning Tips:

  • Map your route and download it offline

  • Know where the nearest fuel stops and food spots are

  • Check weather and trail conditions ahead of time

  • Let someone know your route and estimated return time

  • Pack based on the terrain—sand, mud, snow, or mountain all ask different things of your machine

Don’t Skip the Basics

Before any big ride, always give your machine a proper once-over:

  • Change the oil, top up fluids, and check filters

  • Inspect tires (or tracks) for wear, pressure, and damage

  • Test the battery and electrical system

  • Make sure your lights are working—especially if you’re riding near dusk

  • Tighten bolts and check your chain or belt for proper tension

Ride Far, Ride Smart

Packing and planning might not be the most exciting part of the trip—but it’s what makes the adventure possible.
