Keep your motocross bike in top shape without spending hours in the garage.
Ripping through dirt, mud, and dust is what your bike was built for, but every ride takes a toll. Staying on top of quick post-ride checks can prevent small issues from turning into expensive problems. The good news? Not everything needs attention every time.
At Revolution Powersports, we’re all about riding more and wrenching smart. Here’s a simple breakdown of what you should inspect after every ride, and what can wait a little longer.
Check These Every Time
1. Chain Tension & Lubrication
Your chain takes a beating—mud, grit, and flex wear it down fast.
Check for: Proper slack, dryness, or buildup.
Fix: Clean and lube it while it’s fresh from the ride.
2. Tire Condition & Pressure
Tires can pick up nails, lose pressure, or wear unevenly in just one ride.
Check for: Cuts, embedded debris, low PSI.
Fix: Inflate to spec and remove anything stuck.
3. Loose Bolts or Fasteners
Vibration can work bolts loose, especially on the bars, plastics, and foot pegs.
Check for: Anything rattling, shifting, or uneven.
Fix: Re-torque key bolts and inspect regularly-used areas.
4. Air Filter
If the trail was dusty or muddy, your air filter is taking the hit.
Check for: Visible dirt, clogging, or dampness.
Fix: Clean or replace if it’s especially bad—this one’s key for engine health.
5. Brake Function
Always make sure you can stop as well as you go.
Check for: Spongy feel, worn pads, or buildup on the rotor.
Fix: Clean the rotors and confirm no air has entered the line.
What Can Wait (But Not Forever)
Oil Change
You don’t need to change your oil every ride, but keep it on a schedule, especially after long or aggressive sessions.
Coolant Check
Unless you notice overheating, top-ups can usually wait a few rides. But don’t ignore leaks or bubbling overflow.
Valve Clearance
Crucial for performance, but this is a longer-interval service task. Keep it on your maintenance calendar—especially for 4-strokes.
Suspension Service
Wipe down forks after rides to avoid buildup, but a full suspension service is typically done every 20–30 hours.
Make It a Habit, Not a Hassle
Regular post-ride checks don’t just protect your bike—they make your next ride smoother and safer. Build a routine, and it’ll become second nature.
